Restoration programme
Boleh is a historic junk yacht of unique design whose importance has been recognised by inclusion on the UK’s National Register of Historic Vessels (No. 2281) and by a generous grant form the National Historic Ships Fund.

Her restoration, using traditional skills and materials under shipwright Richard Uttley’s supervision, is a major project and is being undertaken in six steps. We have almost completed step three.

Step 1 - Stripping Boleh down and surveying any damage
Step 2 - Dealing with the major outcomes of the survey such as repairing cracked timber
Step 3 - Fitting the new deck and cabin structure
Step 4 - “First Fix” replacing the current 40hp engine and systems
Step 5 - Interior refitting
Step 6 - New masts and rigging
The object is to return Boleh as near as possible to her original condition and layout. It is recognised, however, that her future training role will require some modifications to reflect today’s standards of safety for the young people on board. If we reach our funding targets, we hope to complete the restoration programme in 2011 and have the vessel fully kitted-out and ready for training by the start of the 2012 season.
