Keeping Boleh fit for purpose isn’t just about her maintenance and material state. During the off Season Trustees need to review recent legislation and instructions from HMG and Marine authorities and catch up with best practice in the Sail Training community. What better place to exchange ideas and seek advice than the Annual ASTO UK Sail Training Conference held last month in Portsmouth. So along went ASTO members Vice Chair Richard Metcalfe and Secretary Ant Atkinson-Willes to represent the Trust.
Kicked off by world-class sailor and Vendee Globe solo finisher Pip Hare, the Conference enabled ASTO members to discuss expert presentations on highly relevant subjects. Richard and Ant’s priority was to assess the impact on Boleh operations of the new 281 page ‘MCA Sport or Pleasure Vessel Code for the safety of small vessels in Commercial use‘. Relieved, they found 3 years to achieve compliance and our recent 4 Volume Safety Management System already partly ahead of the game. Well done Team Boleh!
