Last month Boleh was again down in Portland, sailing local schools with long term partner the Chesil Sailing Trust (CST). CST continue to play an important role across Dorset, focussing on areas of deprivation and schools with the highest levels of ‘pupil premium’. Targeting those with the greatest need, their courses are now longer but for smaller numbers. So, with Boleh a recognised RYA training centre, this year CST offered young people 2 days onboard to qualify for RYA ‘Start Yachting’ certificates.
Seasoned CST trustee and volunteer Mate, John Tweed supported Yachtmaster Instructor, Craig taking the children through the ‘Start Yachting’ course. Picture shows some of the qualifying young ‘mariners’ happily waving their RYA certificates and log books. We’re very grateful to the Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Foundation and the Valentine Trust for funding Boleh’s Portland deployment and thrilled with comments received: “learnt lots but also very fun, would love to do it again” . . . . “great staff, wonderful boat” . . . . “Craig’s really wonderful with young people – at one stage he had them all dancing on deck!”.
