Boleh Project features in Longest Day Celebrations

By News

The News, Portsmouth have launched a short video showing a day in the life of The News and the communities it serves.

The News have put together clips of their own events, as well as contributions by readers who helped us show the rich variety of life around the area.

From the christening of a ship to the finishing of an art project, from the visit of a Government minister to an appearance by Katie Price, all are included in the video.

It was one of many produced by Johnston Press newspapers around the country to mark June 21 – the longest day of the year – in celebration of our Summer of Love campaign, launched to try to try to reflect a new mood of optimism, create a renewed sense of confidence, celebrate what’s great about local life and boost business across our communities.

Editor Mark Waldron said: ‘The video is a great celebration of day-to-day life in this area.’

Boleh Bursaries – Royalist Regatta

By News

The Royalist Regatta offers the experience of the most exhilarating and unique challenges by taking part in two days of competitive sailing in the Solent. The Boleh Trust were pleased to be able to offer a sailing bursary to Sea Cadet Oliver Windsor to enable him to enjoy this experience and expand his skills in both sailing and team work.

L.C Oliver Windsor commented – “I had a great time and the crew was great to sail with. It is really good that there are organisations like the Boleh Trust who make it possible for Sea Cadets to have such a great opportunity.”

Open Day Success

By News

The Boleh Project want to send a huge thank you to all involved in the first Open Day since the HLF grant was awarded.

We had a fantastic day, with over 240 visitors, it was great to share Boleh’s story with so many people from the local community. Visitors ranged from those who had sailed on Boleh in the past, to people interested in maritime history and finding out about what our local young people are learning.

We have achieved so much since our HLF grant was awarded last year that it was lovely opportunity to invite members of the public in to see the Boleh Project. We look forward to our next open day on 30th June to update everyone on our progress.

A comment from one of our visitors.

“Awesome project providing lots of interest and new skills for a lot of young people. Important historic interest and maintenance of skilled talents in this country. Well done to all involved.”

We would also like to extended a further thank you to Southsea Choir, for providing such a lovely addition to our day. The sea shanties created a wonderful atmosphere and were well received by all.
